What are your new years resolutions?
The start of the new year seems like the best time to make some changes to our daily routine. The question is, what is the best way to come up with your new years resolutions? Below are a few tips:
First of all new year resolutions can be about lots of different things, let’s think about your health, social life, success at work, parenting skills, how to feel happier, etc.
Reflection
Ask yourself the following questions: What went well last year and what didn’t? This will give you a better idea about where you would like to make some improvements.
Select 1 to 3 goals for your new years resolutions, which will make a difference in your life
Think about what you would like to improve in your life and ask yourself how to do this.
Choose a few goals and make sure they are specific.
If you would like to lose five kilos, then this might involve making your portion sizes smaller, stop eating carbs at night and exercise three to four times per week.
Come up with a clear action plan which will help you to achieve your goals.
When choosing your new years resolutions make your goals visible and write them down on a piece of paper. Let some family members and/or friends know about your resolutions as they can give you some support.
Think about a plan B if certain things happen which may slow down the process of achieving your resolutions.
Have a ‘stop-doing’ list
Feeling too busy often stops us from achieving our goals. To gain extra time so you can achieve your new resolutions, you will have to give up something else in your life. This might be staying up for one extra hour in the evening or checking your Facebook account five times a day. Basically, identify these things, put them on your ‘stop-doing’ list and don’t do them.
